Indonesia – the land of thousand islands

Indonesia is  the world’s largest archipelago that comprises 17 508 islands, of which only 6000 are inhibited and merely 8000 have been named.

The archipelago contains 500 volcanoes, including 130 active ones. The country is situated on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where about 90% of the planet’s active volcanoes are and 81% of the world’s largest earthquakes occur.

Indonesia has 4th largest population on earth with 250 milion people, hundreds of distinct native ethnic and linguistic groups, many religions. Therefore its national motto says Bhinneka Tunggal Ika -“Unity in Diversity”.
Local cuisine is based on rice, meat, chili …and instant noodles. In 2005, “Indomie” brand from Indonesia broke the Guinness Book of World Records in the category “The Largest Packet of Instant Noodles“. It was certified fit for human consumption and weighted 664kg!

Tourist attractions vary from (not really paradise-like) beaches in Bali, active volcanoes, wild animal parks (Komodo dragons, orangutans, Javan rhinoceros), cultural heritage (temples in Borobudur, Prambanan, religious ceremonies i Bali) and many, many more…
